Issues and Solutions

Despite 8 years of the same representative there has failed to be significant progress on many issues critical to the citizens of West Rural St. Andrew, such as lacking health infrastructure, poor road conditions and access to essential services. Joan will address these longstanding issues!

01.  Processing Land Titles
Too many citizens of West Rural have lived for decades on land they do not possess the Titles for.

Joan will make best efforts to assist families in obtaining formal land ownership Titles; allowing them to access full ownership benefits.
02.  Modular Infrastructure
Access to healthcare and youth engagement are pressing concerns.

Joan envisions using containers as clinics and STEM labs to enhance essential services and educational opportunities.

These modular solutions will provide flexible, cost-effective spaces to meet urgent local needs.
03.  Amplify Agro Industries
West Rural St. Andrew's fertile hillsides offer untapped potential. The candidate aims to support agro-industries by promoting agro-processing forsurplus fruits.

Forming partnerships for ornamental plant nurseries, and fostering the cultivation of yam, chocho, turmeric, and other hillside crops.

This plan will create jobs and maximise the area's agricultural advantages.
04.  School Farming Program
To address low school attendance caused by inadequate nutrition, Joan proposes a school farming program.

This initiative will empower schools to grow fresh product, ensuring students have access to healthy, nutiritous meals while learning valuable agricultaural skills.
05.  Compost Co-operative
Farmers in West Rural St. Andrew face fluctuating returns and high input costs.

One of Joan's solutions is to establish the West Rural Compost Co-op, beginning with a composting pilot program informed by her leadership at NSWMA.

This initiative will:

  • reduce input costs
  • improve sustainability
  • and boost farmer's profits through cooperative strength.
